An Operating System is the low-level software that controls a computer. It takes care of the way your hardware operates, the communication with peripherals for instance a monitor, a printer or a keyboard, the allocation of memory between all the applications, and the prioritization of apps if multiple ones run simultaneously. Each program that's installed on a laptop or a desktop functions by sending requests to the OS for various services by using an application program interface (API). The contact with the OS is possible using a Graphical User Interface (GUI) or a command line. In the Internet hosting world, the OS is what runs a server as well as all the software installed on it, which includes not only website scripts, but also every other application such as a VOIP or a game server. When there're virtual machines created, they employ a guest OS which is run on the server host OS.

Multiple OS in VPS Servers

We provide three different Linux releases for the Operating System of our VPS servers - Debian, CentOS and Ubuntu. These are among the safest and the most reliable OSs available and we supply all three of them rather than just 1 because we realize that you may want to set up some software with specific requirements regarding the Operating System it will run on. The latter is due to the fact that each of the three Operating Systems has a large support community behind it and there're various software programs you could install on the server. Your OS choice will also determine exactly what hosting Control Panel can be installed on the VPS in case you want to use one and that's why we offer multiple Control Panels too. In case you decide that you need to have a different OS, our tech support can quickly wipe the existing one and set up the one that you would like. In addition, we offer an optional service to have the OS on your VPS updated weekly.

Multiple OS in Dedicated Servers

If you decide to obtain one of our dedicated servers, you shall find three Operating Systems on the order page as we want to give you a wider choice regarding the system environment on your machine as different applications could have specific requirements. CentOS, Ubuntu and Debian come with different modules developed by their huge support communities, so you can select any of these OSs and benefit from a stable and risk-free Internet hosting service. Depending on your selection, you'll also have different Control Panels to choose from. Needless to say, we can always replace the Operating System if the one you've selected in the beginning doesn't meet the requirements of the software that you would like to run. We can also upgrade your OS regularly to keep it as risk-free as possible through our Managed Services upgrade package.
